Work with Me

My goal is to help you clear a path forward one that aligns with your values, builds on your strengths, and equips you with tools to thrive long after our sessions end.

In my practice, I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Talk Therapy, and Solution-Focused techniques to create a space that is supportive, collaborative, and focused on results.

Whether you’re working through anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, or simply seeking more clarity and direction, our work together will be tailored to meet your unique goals.

About My Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The core idea behind CBT is that negative or distorted thinking patterns contribute to emotional distress and unhelpful behaviors, and by identifying and challenging these thoughts, individuals can develop healthier coping strategies.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is a collaborative and non-pathologizing approach that views people as separate from their problems. It is based on the idea that individuals interpret their lives through personal stories, and that these stories shape their identity and behavior. In therapy, clients are encouraged to explore and re-author these narratives by identifying and challenging dominant, problem-saturated stories that may limit their growth.

Talk Therapy

Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy, is a general term for treating emotional, psychological, and behavioral issues through structured conversations with a trained therapist. The goal of talk therapy is to help individuals understand their thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behavior in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Through open dialogue, clients can explore personal challenges, gain insight into their experiences, and develop healthier coping strategies.

Solution-Focused Techniques

A Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) approach is a goal-directed, future-oriented therapeutic technique that emphasizes finding solutions rather than focusing extensively on problems or past issues. The core belief is that clients have the strengths and resources needed to create positive change in their lives.

About Sayra

Hi, I’m Sayra Besner, LCSW, and I’ve been passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges for as long as I can remember. I earned my master’s in social work from Barry University in 2007 and began my career in New York City, where I worked as the Director of an outpatient mental health clinic serving individuals with a wide range of diagnoses. I also spent time managing a halfway house for women with co-occurring disorders, an experience that deepened my understanding of the unique struggles women face in recovery.

After that chapter, I took a step back from professional work to focus on raising my two beautiful children. During that time, I also faced my own experience with postpartum depression something that continues to fuel my empathy and commitment to supporting others through life’s transitions.

Now, as a single mom and private practice therapist, I work with individuals from all walks of life, with a special focus on women’s issues. Whether it’s anxiety, guilt, identity, or finding clarity in the chaos that is life, I’m here to help you move closer to your goals and feel more like your best self.
